Older-adult rehabilitation

Practical rehabilitation for strength, balance, and independence

We support older adults and caregivers with goals such as walking more confidently, reducing falls risk, regaining strength after illness or surgery, and managing everyday activity.

By appointment only. Tell us about transport, caregiver, or accessibility needs before you book.

Rehabilitation should be personal and practical

Age alone does not define what someone can do. We begin with the person’s health, current ability, environment, support, and priorities.

Please include the older adult in decisions wherever possible. Contact the clinic before booking if transport, communication, cognitive, or accessibility needs require planning.

Everyday movement that has become harder

Bring information about recent changes, falls, hospital admissions, current assistance, and the activities causing concern.

  • Walking more confidently at home or in the community
  • Reducing falls risk and rebuilding balance
  • Regaining strength after illness, hospitalisation, or surgery
  • Managing arthritis-related stiffness and everyday mobility
  • Getting out of a chair, using stairs, or returning home after a setback
  • Caregiver support for safer movement and home practice

What we look at during your assessment

  1. 1

    Start with the person

Age alone does not define what someone can do. We begin with health, current ability, environment, support, and the everyday activities that matter.

  2. 2

    Assess ability and risk

The physiotherapist may consider walking, balance, strength, transfers, stairs, confidence, recent falls, and home or community demands.

  3. 3

    Build a respectful plan

The goal is not a generic senior exercise class. It is to build meaningful ability safely, with caregivers involved when the person consents.

During the appointment we may look at

  • Getting out of a chair, walking, and stairs
  • Balance and falls-related confidence
  • Strength for the household tasks that matter at home

If getting out of a chair is the hard part, we look at that movement—not a generic older-adult exercise list.

“Had an arm surgery last Dec which caused my right arm movement to be limited. Been going for weekly Physio session with Janette since Feb and Pilates... session with Jingwen since Jun. Both of them are very professional and friendly. Have seen huge improvement in my arm range movement now. Would highly recommend!”

Questions people often ask

Is someone too old or frail for physiotherapy?

Suitability depends on health, stability, goals, and the level of support required—not age alone. The clinic may recommend medical review or another form of care if outpatient physiotherapy is not appropriate.

Can a caregiver attend?

Usually a family member or caregiver can be involved with the person’s consent. Confirm room, privacy, and appointment arrangements with the clinic.

Can physiotherapy prevent every fall?

No. Falls can have many causes. Strength, balance, environment, vision, medication, and health may all matter. Physiotherapy can address relevant movement and functional factors as part of a wider plan.

What should we bring?

Bring information about recent changes, falls, hospital admissions, current assistance, and the activities causing concern. Include the older adult in decisions wherever possible. Contact the clinic before booking if transport, communication, or accessibility needs require planning.
