What is Cellulite?
Cellulite, also referred to as ‘orange peel skin’, is a complicated skin condition that can happen to anyone, even men and very thin women. Cellulite occurs not in the skin, but actually under the skin in our subcutaneous fat layer.
Cellulite looks like uneven, bumpy skin. Cellulite often appears on areas such as the arms, bottom and thighs, and can occur even on women with very little fat stores.
What causes cellulite?
Cellulite is fatty deposits in our subcutaneous fat layer under the dermal layer of the skin. These fatty deposits ‘bulge out’ between the fibrous tissues of our skin, which is what leads to that dreaded ‘orange peel’ look. Cellulite causes vary. Often, a combination of toxin storage, fat cell increased, weight gain, bad circulation cause cellulite to form.
Other factors such as smoking, stress, poor diet, lack of exercises, hormonal changes, inactive lifestyle may further accelerate skin ageing and the appearance of cellulite.
A sedentary lifestyle may contribute to reduction in the microcirculation of the skin. This reduction in blood flow may interrupt the transport of oxygen and nutrients, fat deposits build up and if the process continues it leads to visible changes of the skin, the cellulite builds up even more.
